Our Lady Undoer of Knots

Novena to Our Lady Undoer of Knots – Popular Devotion to the Virgin Mary

Introduction:

Historically, Irenaeus spoke of Our Lady as being the one who undid Eden’s knot of disobedience in the second century. Just as Mary, through her devotion to God (her constant “yes, Lord”) untied Eve’s knot, she continues to guide us through her example of faith in the untying of our own knots as well.

In the Roman Catholic Church, Our Lady the Undoer of Knots is a popular devotion to the Virgin Mary. An image of Mary untangling a knot of ribbons, symbolizing the problems and difficulties in people’s lives, appears in a painting of the same name.

Novena to Our Lady Undoer of Knots:

O Virgin Mary, Untier of Knots,
You who intercede for us with your Son,
Please hear our prayers and untie the knots in our lives.

You know the struggles we face, the knots that bind us,
And the pain we carry in our hearts.
We come to you with humble hearts,
Seeking your intercession and guidance.

Through your obedience and trust in God’s plan,
You became the Untier of Knots, undoing the knots of sin and despair.
Help us to trust in God’s providence,
And to surrender our knots into His loving hands.

Mother of Mercy, intercede for us,
That we may experience the freedom and peace that come from untying knots.
Guide us in seeking solutions to our problems,
And inspire us to trust in God’s perfect timing.

We place our intentions before you,
And ask that you present them to your Son.
Please ask Him to untie the knots in our lives,
And to grant us the grace to persevere in faith.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
Amen.

During the nine days of the novena, you can repeat this prayer each day and spend time reflecting on the knots in your life, offering them to Mary for her intercession.
